Chief Operating Officer
The Plant Manager position directs and manages all plant operations with overall responsibilities for development, scheduling, production, inventory control, shipping; receiving, maintenance, quality, security, print shop, and other plant-related activities. This is a ‘roll up your sleeves’, ‘hands-on’ position that requires directing, leading, and mentoring employees at all levels, including both a union and a large, variable contract workforce.
Direct and manage plant operations for development, scheduling, production, inventory control, shipping; receiving, maintenance, quality, security, and print shop.
Provide leadership in maintaining a team based, customer focused culture of commitment, respect, transparency and accountability at every level of the plant.
Ability to empower the operations team through hiring, evaluating, developing, training, and coaching.
Must demonstrate sound judgement and unwavering integrity in all business dealings.
Coordinate plant activities through planning and scheduling with departmental supervisors to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
Maintain close contact with Sales executives and their staffs to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being met.
Develop and control plans, costs, and operating budget.
Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
Develop and create operational and efficiency improvement strategies through the use of industry best practices.
Manage capital asset maintenance including buildings.
Establish and monitor overall plant performance metrics for production and quality standards.
Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.
Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary. Provide direct supervision and a ‘hands on’ approach.
Provide leadership and training to the operations team so they are fully capable of accomplishing company goals and objectives.
Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
Provide ongoing support of the SQF principles, incorporating shop floor organization, food quality and safety, and plant cleanliness among all plant personnel.
Provide direction, development and leadership to supervisors.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Occasional Sundays and interacting with second shift staff at night are also required.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor degree in related field and a minimum of 8 years plant/general management experience in a food / confection manufacturing environment.
Exposure to managing both union and contract employee based environments.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in Spanish is preferred.
Strong knowledge of SQF, GMP, HACCP, FDA, and OSHA requirements and standards.
Basic understanding of Heat; Power Co-generation and HVAC systems is required.
